Skal Taipei Organizes New ToastMasters Club

On 27 February, the SKALTaipei Toast Masters Club (STTM) was officially chartered during the SKAL International Taipei Club’s Spring Toast banquet at the Grand Hotel in Taipei. Dr. James Lin, District Governor of Toast Maters International District 67, officiated the ceremony and presented the Charter Certificate to Mayumi Hu, president of the new club.
The founder of the STTM, Edward Lo, encouraged Skal members to consider STTM a means of improving the public speaking ability of their employees. In her inaugural speech, Mayumi Hu pointed out how STTM can improve communications and leadership skills of employees, thus directly contributing to the formation of a better next-generation of tourism leaders. The new ToastMaster’s Club is also seen as a source of potential Young Skal members.
President Hu also pointed out that the Club’s first aim is to win recognition for the club and boost its membership growth while maintaining member satisfaction. Although organization of the club got under way only in October 2009, it already has 28 members.
Lieutenant District Governor of Education and Training, Mike Yang, extended heartfelt congratulations on the chartering of the club, and his feeling of honor at being able to play a role in the chartering process. He expressed the hope that the club’s members will become better communicators and successful leaders of the tourism industry.
Yang also emphasized District 67’s theme for this year: Dig More, Reap More! As members dig more from Toastmasters training, they will learn more and gain more self-confidence and personal growth. After finishing his speech, he presented certificates of appreciation to the new club’s sponsors, mentors, sponsoring clubs, and club founders.
The ceremony was concluded by Lieutenant District Governor of Marketing Grace Shih, who delivered a speech and officiated over the officers’ installation ceremony. She asked each officer to hold the gavel as she briefly explained his or her duties and asked for commitment to the furtherance of the ToastMasters movement.
